Sew-Ichigo and a Giveaway!
We are thrilled to congratulate member Penny Michelle Layman, Seamed UP Podcast co-host (episode 13) and author of the Sew Take a Hike blog, along with Kerry Green of Very Berry Kerry.
Sew-Ichigo is their new pattern design company, and they are celebrating the release of their first pattern set, Kitchen Classics.
Kerry writes that she and Penny "were drawn together through a mutual love of paper piecing and kitchen themes. We have been plotting and hatching for some time developing a project where we can work together and so Sew-Ichigo was created. We aim to combine our graphic, quirky, cute styles to make you the best paper piecing patterns we possibly can."
Penny says "My inspiration was, of course, my personal KitchenAid and some vintage metal magazine holders."
If you'd like to win your own copy of the Kitchen Classics line, leave a comment sharing what your favorite kitchen gadget is. Maybe it will be featured in Kitchen Classics 2!
Mystery Quilt by Email - A Guest Post by Heather Spence
SeamedUP has many amazing members. Today's guest post is by Heather Spence (HeatherSpence on SeamedUP) about how the Mystery Quilt by Email got started.
Hi! Thank you SeamedUp for having me here and featuring the Mystery Quilt by Email.
The Mystery Quilt by Email started last fall when my mom got a stem cell transplant for her lymphoma/leukemia. She needed to do fundraising to help off-set the cost of treatment. Over $800 was raised for Mom's transplant on December 6, 2011.
During the course of the Mystery Quilt I met a woman, Janice, whose daughter-in-law was diagnosed with melanoma that had spread to her lungs and brain. When she was diagnosed she had been working two jobs to help with mortgage and car payments. Since the diagnosis and treatments she has had to quit both jobs. The goal of the Spring 2012 Mystery Quilt is to help Janice's daughter-in-law pay her bills and keep her on track with her treatments, focusing on getting well and not worrying about where the money will come from.
The cost of the Mystery Quilt is $10. All of the money will be given directly to her and her family. You can sign up at www.etsy.com/shop/heatherspencedesigns or find more information at www.heatherspencedesigns.com. We can also be reached via email at mysteryquilt@heatherspencedesigns.com.
Sign up now! The first clue will be emailed this Friday, April 27, 2012.
Thanks for your support,
Heather Spence
P.S. There’s a 20% off coupon from Fat Quarter Shop and we will be having a giveaway too! Come and join the fun!
Project Inspiration from National Quilting Month
One of the side effects of our National Quilting Month Contest was the almost 1000 new projects that were added to the site for inspiration and admiration.
Some of our favorites?
Sisters Shuffle Tomato by MargaretK. Margaret writes: Made by three sisters for our dear sister in law for her 50th birthday. We each made some of the original squared blocks, then got together to, slice, shuffle, piece and finish the quilts. Tomato because there is a tomato print and red binding.
Storm at Sea by SandiH.
Day in the Park Bag by Marisa.OneByOne. Don't you just want one of these?
You Are My Sunshine by SweetDreamdBySarah This one was a 1600 race quilt. I love this picture of the bright, happy quilt in the green grass!
It was so much fun to see old projects, new projects, WIPs, WHIMMs, PIGS and UFOs.* Keep 'em coming. We want to see!
*Quilt Acronyms:
